November Newsletter

Happy Thanksgiving blog header

It is the season for great food, family, and friends. I am anxiously waiting for the delicious feast on Thanksgiving. Turkey, stuffing, and pumpkin pie are just some of the food I am looking forward to stuffing my face with. Before I enter into a Turkey coma, I thought I better get out my November Newsletter. I hope everyone is enjoying this time of year with their family and friends. The weather in Oklahoma the last few days has been beautiful. I know it won’t last, so I am taking advantage of it by having picnics and exploring some neat parks.

Project Updates

I have been working hard on Episode 7. As of today, I am a little over one-fourth of the way through the first draft. Chapter 6 was a stinker. I spent a couple of days going back and rewriting that one. My goal is to finish the first draft before Christmas. Wish me luck as I burn the midnight oil for the next few weeks. The second season of the Freaks has been so much fun to write. The feel of this book for me is different as the characters make new goals and begin to grow. Creating the new villains for this book has been the most fun. Their goals and beliefs are vastly different from Conrad. I am looking forward to revealing them to you soon.

I love using Pinterest for inspiration for writing. I can spend way too much time looking at the amazing art and stunning pictures. The bridge I mention in Freaks season 1 was inspired by this beautiful bridge in West Virginia.

When Bounty Calls

Early in January 2019, I was asked to submit another story to Z Publishing in their Science Fiction Short Stories. It is always an honor to be asked and I enjoy working with Z Publishing. They are a group of wonderfully creative people. This story was inspired by Cowboy Bebop, Firefly, Star Trek, and the song When Worlds Collide by Powerman 5000. I have always been a fan of stories that take place in space. This was my take on those fun stories. When Bounty Calls was so much fun to write and create. I originally came up with the idea when I was 16 in a creative writing class I took in High School. I had forgotten about it until I came across some of my old stories when I was cleaning out my desk. It was a very different story but had the same motley crew of characters. That was when I decided that would be the story I would write for submission. I pulled out my Powerman 5000 cd and went to work.

You should have received When Bounty Calls in your email today if you are a subscriber. If not, follow the link to the story.

Game On!

Yesterday, I finished my first playthrough of Outer Worlds. Wow! That was such a fun game. The mechanics, graphics, and storyline were awesome. My favorite part of the game was getting to know your crew and completing their side quests. I, also, enjoyed the different options in how I could respond in conversations and to the quests. This is a great game. I recently reviewed Outer Worlds. If you want to check out my review follow the link.

Current Reads

War Storm by Victoria Aveyard

I am on the 4th book in the Red Queen series. This book has been so good. The end of book 3 ripped out my heart. I am hoping that War Storm will mend it. Mare is such a tough character. I love how she is always able to pick herself up and keep pushing forward. I am about 10% through the book. I am listening to the audio version on the hoopla app. The voice actors for this series are incredible!

The Watchmaker's Daughter by C. J. Archer

I bought this book a while ago on my Kindle. For some reason, I am really bad about reading books on my Kindle. So this month, I am making an effort to read on my kindle. The Watchmaker’s Daughter has been a very interesting read so far. It is set in the Victorian era in London. India Steele is the main character of this novel. She has lost her father and her father’s shop all at once. Her fiance tricking her and taking the shop. Now without any means to support herself, even though she is an excellent watchmaker, she is homeless and jobless. In comes Matthew Glass. A strange wealthy American searching for a certain Watchmaker. I am looking forward to India solving the mystery of Matthew Glass.

I am having a sale on Freaks Episode 1’s digital version. Episode 1 will be only $0.99 from Nov. 29th to Dec. 6th. If you haven’t had a chance to pick up the first episode of the series and have been wanting to, then this will be a good chance to start or to give as a gift.
